Free Ways to get traffic to your website
#1 Article Writing.
Writing articles as a way to generate traffic and increase ones page rank has become quite popular over the last couple years. The great thing about article writing is that once you write an article it is possible to get hundreds of links to your site within a few weeks, which means possible hundreds of new visits. Write an article about something you feel you know a lot about, a subject you think you can teach people about. Articles should be anywhere from 350-1500 words, and be well written. One done writing the article, it is now time to submit it to the dozens of free article directories online. What is so great about these article submission websites is that they usually have an “about the author” field. Here you can put a link to your website as well as tell them a little bit about yourself. When the article goes up in their directory you will automatically have a link from that page to yours. Not only will you get traffic directly from the article directory you just submitted to, but you will also get secondary traffic from the people who republish your article on their site. Article submission directories allow anyone to republish the articles they carry as long as the republisher also adds the “About the author” section to their site, meaning your link will also appear on their site. Article submission is a powerful tool, because just one article submitted to one directory for free could literally turn into dozens of links to your site and thus traffic.

2) Tell them why this problem is so bad, and how important it is for them to fix it.
3) Show them why your product or service you may be writing about is the best solution for their problem. Do it though in a way that doesn’t look like you are trying to sell anything, instead you are just trying to help people with the same problem(s) you had.

#3 Offer Something for free.
Everyone likes free stuff. Basically this idea is to offer a free ebook you may write, a free script you may have coded, or bought resell rights to, or another product. Give distribution rights to whoever downloads your product, meaning they have the right to also give it away. The trick here is to embed a link to your website within the ebook, script, or whatever else you are giving away. You should also try and make money this way by embedding affiliate links to possible products or services you recommend. This way when other people give your product away for free they are also giving away a plug for your website. This is viral marketing at its best! Some of the largest highest ranked websites online today are those who started out giving away free information products.
Once you have a free ebook, or file to distribute, the best way to go about distributing it, is uploading it at all the various Torrent sites. Doing so will basically make it available and searchable to millions of people all over the world. Remember to use a really catchy title (something that makes someone want to download it), use good keywords in the title and provide something of value. Word Press Theme Creation and Giveaway
If, on the other hand you are a good designer or know someone who can design Wordpress themes for you, thats a great way to get possibly hundreds or even thousands of free site wide back links.
Wordpress is the free blog software which a large number of popular blogs use today. Of course the blog creators don’t want their blogs looking the same as everyone else’s, thus themes are very important. WordPress themes are basically the skins of the blog, the layout, and the graphics/design. What people do is create themes and give them away at various websites. They embed a link at the bottom of the theme so that whoever uses it for their blog will automatically be linking to the theme creators chosen website, with the anchor text that the creator chose. There have been some very well known webmasters who not only reported receiving thousands of monthly unique visits from people simply clicking through to their site on blogs using their themes, but also who got ranked #1 in Google for some very competitive keyword phrases.
When you are designing your theme you want to go for popularity so scour the Internet for the most popular themes, rank the themes by download total at http://themes.wordpress.net and try to get an idea for what makes a good, highly download theme.
#4 Add your comments and links to blogs.
Before I go into more details, you want to avoid blog spamming. No one likes a blog spammer and ultimately it will hurt you rather then help you. What you need to do is find blog posts that relate somewhat to the site you are running. Then leave a helpful or interesting comment to theirs posts in a way that you can incorporate your website url without looking like you are just posting to spam. If you are running a site that discuss’s bicycle wheels, then look for blog posts related to bicycles. For instance if a post discuss’s the crazy terrain found on various outdoor bike tracks, reply saying something like, “Yep I blew a tire last week riding in the mountains in Colorado. Apparently my wheels were not up to standard. I found a lot of good information about the different types of bicycle wheels at http://xxxxx.com”. Now you may ask,, “How do I find new blog posts related to my category?” Well that’s quite easy. Simply goto http://www.technorati.com and do a search. You wil be amazed at how many results come up.

#5 Having a Memorable Domain Name
This is very important. You want a domain name that people can remember so that they will revisit your site at a later date. If you have a website about mountain bikes, then obviously don’t use a domain name like mybigfatstomach.com. usually domain names which relate to your topic are best. I have found that shorter domain names are better then longer ones, and .com domains are much much better then any other extension. If you have domain name BigEarning.net, it is more then likely a good percentage of your visitors who wish to visit your site again will only remember “BigEarning”, and not the .net extension. Therefore at a later date they will more then likely type in Earning.com, which clearly wouldn’t be your site. #6 Submit to all the Free directories possible.
Read our guide for directories for a huge list of the best free directories online. Free directories are free links, meaning free traffic as well as Google page rank.
#7 Create a newsletter.
This is a point that a lot of webmasters totally ignore. You are getting traffic to your website already, so why not have a link on your site to allow your visitors to sign up to a free newsletter? Think if you had 1000 people sign up, and you sent out a newsletter every month or so. You would get hundreds of repeat visits from these newsletter subscribers every month. Not only will you get traffic from your newsletter but you will also be able to put subtle advertising for products you are selling or are an affiliate for, converting these newsletter subscribers into cash! Just search Google for “free mailing list scripts,” and you will find a bunch of them to download and try out. Another great thing about having a newsletter is that it will give you one heck of a jump start on any new sites you launch in the future. #8 Analyze your webstats and logs.
Find out where people are coming from, what keywords they are typing in to get to your site, and the general interests of these people. Then cater future content towards these visitors. If you see you are getting 20 hits a day from people searching for hand breaks, while being directed to your bicycle blog, then write content dealing with “hand breaks”. This will keep the visitors happy and make them continued readers. #9 Yahoo Answers and Similar Q & A Sites
Yahoo has a question and answer service located at answers.yahoo.com. Basically normal everyday people ask questions and those with the answer will respond. Many of these questions you could answer correctly by giving the answer but also linking to your site for further details. For example if someone asks how many wheels are on a bicycle. You can reply and say “There are 2 wheels on a bicycle. For all the details of various bikes check out this very informative blog at http://xxxxx.com” There are thousands of questions asked a day and a very easy search tools, so it is quite simple to find questions related to the content of ones site. #10 Social Networking.
There are Hundreds of social networking sites online. For a list check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_social_networking_websites . Myspace.com is the largest one, and has a huge potential for marketers. Basically anyone can set up a profile for their business or website. Then they can start adding friends within minutes. Don’t overdo it as you could get marked as a spammer and have your profile removed. However, at Mysapce you can search for users by interest, location, age, sex, and groups they belong to. It doesn’t get much easier to target those people with the same interest as your website. Once a person becomes a friend you can send out bulletins with ads in them. While not everyone in your friends list will click them you will get some good traffic.
#11 “Add To Favorites,” And “Send website to a friend” links.
Add these two links to your site to both insure yourself of repeat visitors, and insure that your site is marketed the easiest possible way, word of mouth.
#12 Sign Peoples Website Guestbooks.
This isn’t as productive as it was a few years back when everyone had a guestbook at their website, however people still do have guestbooks and you can sign them with whatever you like including a link to your website. Search Google for Guestbook, and you should be able to come up with quite a few to sign.
#13 Social Bookmarking
You can literally get thousands of free visitors in just one day by blogging about or writing an article about something that is crazy, funny, or just simply interesting. How? Well, after you have the article or blog post up on your website you begin submitting it to all the various social bookmarking sites. Social bookmarking sites are sites in which everyday people submit links to news, blogs, articles, etc and then other users like yourself bookmark it or mark it as “interesting” on those sites. The links that get the most positive bookmarks rise to the top while the less interesting links fall to the bottom. Here is a list of sites in which you can post your links for free, and if interesting enough a link you post could make it to the main page and possibly drive thousands of visitors to your site:
#14 Post at free Classified sites
There are a ton of free classified sites out there today. Having said this we like to focus on just the top ones unless you have a lot of extra time on your hands. Make sure you put the ads in the appropriate categories and follow the posting guidelines so you are not banned from these sites. The most popular free classified sites are:

#15 Add a link in your email signature and forums signature to your website
It’s a free and easy way to get a little more traffic. If you send out 10 emails a day thats 3650 emails with your link in it a year. Every bit helps. Most email programs have a feature for signatures.
#16 Banner or link exchanges
There are a ton of people willing to trade links or banners with other sites like yours. You don’t want to trade links with dozens of sites because then your site will be a mess. Also try to exchange links with sites related to your own so that the traffic you get is targeted and the links on your page are at least something your visitors will be semi-interested in.

#17 Create an Amazon/Alexa profile and leave reviews.
By creating an amazon profile with your url in the profile as well as your username you will gain attention. Also in your reviews you can sometimes figure out ways to mention your website in a manner that does not make you look like a spammer. People read reviews of popular products like crazy, so this has a lot of potential in it.
#18 Add your url in your ebay auctions.
Sometimes popular auctions can get thousands of page views. Why not add a link to your website at the bottom of your listings?
#19 Joint Ventures -Partner up with People and exchange ads in eachothers newsletters or mailing lists.
Communicating with other webmasters in your niche and in niches that compliment your own can be an extraordinary way to drive traffic to your website, and depending on what your website is about, possibly increase sales dramatically.
Whether you are just exchanging links or banners with a webmaster, or recommending their product or site to the people you know in exchange for them doing the same, if you aren’t using joint ventures, you better start. All it takes is an email.
Here are some tips on writing emails to a possible joint venture partner:
19.1. Keep your email short and sweet. You are emailing a busy person, they don’t feel like reading a 5 page email, and in fact more then likely would not bother.
19.2. If you are sending out several joint venture requests to numerous webmasters or marketers in your niche, then make sure you personalize each and every one. Use the person’s real name, and tell them what you like about their site or product. Make them feel as if they are the only one who has been contacted by you.
19.3. Use very specific numbers when you can. Whether it be conversion rates of a product, the traffic of your website, or the number of awards you have won.
19.4. There are 2 main reasons that someone will do a Joint Venture with you. They want to make more money/Get more traffic to their website, and they want to look good in front of their own audience. This means they want someone that can help them, while also wanting to only recommend a site or product they truly believe in to their audience. Show them how you can do these two things and you are in.
19.5. Always provide them with your contact information. Email address, cell phone and home number, and anything else. The more comfortable and trusting they feel towards you the better.
19.6. If you are selling a product, provide it to them for free, and also provide them with any tools, prewritten sales emails, banners, and referral links.
Having said all this, Email works great, but the phone works even better. It is much easier to convince someone over the phone and show your interest in working with them, rather then through email. What I recommend is to first send an email. In the email suggest you talk on the phone. Give them your phone number and a good time to call, or suggest that you can call them as well. I don’t think I have ever been turned down on a joint venture when I get through to a potential partner on the telephone.
#20 Create a really interesting, funny, or unique video, and embed your url into it.
Upload it to Youtube.com and all the other video sites. The Top video on Youtube has over 50 million views. If the guy who made the video decided to add a little ad for his domain name at the end, it would be equivalent to a prime time television commercial spot that airs 4 times, worth approximately $500,000!

#21 Include translations for your website.
There are other languages besides English. How about the most populated country in the world, China with 300 million Internet users and growing fast. If you add a Chinese version of your site you will get about 30-40% more traffic if it is about a topic that Chinese people are interested in. Also add translations for other languages and place links for each country’s translated page near the top of your site. There are scripts you can get which will translate text. Search Google.
#22 Hold a crazy contest that people in your niche will talk about.
This will equal more links and traffic to your website. Contest are popular especially in money making related niche sites. Not only will you get links that bump up your PR, and more traffic, but you will also develop a following of people who love you. Some of the largest marketing and online earning blogs, got a big boost by the contests they ran in their first couple months. Two examples are JohnChow.com and Johncow.com, who are both very popular blogs today.
An example of a contest may be something as simple, as “Create a logo for our website” Then reward the top 3 logos $100 in cash via paypal. This will do two things, generate traffic since you are giving away $300 in cash, but also make people view your blog in depth to determine what needs to be present in the logo they make.
Once a contest is created, the fun begins. A contest can be an extraordinary way to generate viral marketing of ones site. There are several websites online that allow you to post your contest link, so the word can spread. Here are some of the better contest notification sites you can add your contest to, free of charge:
#23 Post bulletins in your local supermarket.
However, since not everyone may carry a pen or pencil, place your contact information and url on strips on the bottom so that individuals can rip it off and take it with them. You would be surprised next time you enter the store how many strips are missing.
#24 Go into all the local Best Buys, Circuit Cities, internet cafes and other stores selling computers.
On each computer on display set the homepage to your domain name, and put you site on the screen. This could really increase traffic as every time the computers open the internet your page will be displayed.
#25 Print cards with your logo, theme, and huge URL the size of a postcard.
Odd shapes are even better. Visit local bookstores, pharmacy, grocery stores, libraries and such where they sell books or magazines relating to your niches. Put your site’s card in each magazine and book.
#26 Use RSS feeds so that your website users can easily keep up to date of new stuff happening on your website or even use your RSS feeds in their site or google and yahoo start pages.
#27 Create topic related free lenses at place like Squidoo.com, and Hubpages.com with links to your website.
These pages will get traffic from search engines as well as from the sites directories themselves, and then pass through your site via the links you add on your lenses.
#28 Add you site to List sites
There are a number of websites which have a main purpose of generating lists about certain topics. For instance a list of the best webmaster forums may be one of them. The great thing about these sites is that they usually allow you to add to the lists and often even links if your links are on topic. They also allow you to create your own lists. This will give you free back links, increasing your search engine ranks, while also generating click through traffic. Remember to only post your links in lists where it will not be viewed as spam. Don’t abuse these resources.

#29 Have your Site Reviewed
This traffic strategy kills two birds with one stone. First of all you will get some amazing feedback about your website, from design, to usability, and second you will get a pretty good amount of visitors who are actually looking through the various sections of your site.
There are a bunch of websites that will review your website free of charge. Many of these are forums that welcome website critiques. In fact The Team Earners section here at Talkgold has one of these sections itself. However, make sure you get involved in the community before you ask for a review. This is an incredible way to drive free traffic to your site. Either create a tutorials section that goes along with your niche, or just add a tutorial every now and then to a page on your site. Unlike writing articles and submitting them to directories, there are many tutorial sites what link directly to your tutorial on your site instead of hosting the tutorial themselves. I have received over 3,000 uniques in a matter of 2 days from just adding one of my tutorial links to 3 free tutorial directories. Here is a list of some of the more popular tutorial websites that you can quickly and easily add your link to. I have also included the estimated free traffic (from my experience) you will get just in the first few days of it being added for some of the top sites:

#31 – Advertise in Free Safelists
A safelist is simply a list of email addresses of people who have joined and then agreed to receive emails from other members of that list. It’s basically a community of people who advertise to one another. You can literally email thousands of people your ad in seconds, and never have to worry about spam complaints. The drawback is that a bulk of safelist subscribers do not read the emails they receive most of the time. Having said this, it only takes a few minutes to send an email to tens of thousands of people. Although many will not read your email, a good number will, and its free, so this is definitely a technique we recommend.
#32 – Post Your ad and links in Free Advertising Forums
There seems to be more and more forums popping up now-a-days for the sole purpose of people posting ads in them. Although the traffic numbers may not be staggering that you will receive from posting an ad at these places, the time it takes to do so is quite small, and you will get new eyes checking out your page. What we recommend to do, is to go through the main, more popular free advertising forums and take 10-15 minutes to post your ads on them daily. Not only will these get you free traffic, but also should help slightly with back links and Google PageRank. Here is a list of some of the more popular ones:
